Call for Applications: New Directions in Jewish Studies Lecture Series at UC Davis

The Jewish Studies Program at UC Davis invites applications for the third annual New Directions in Jewish Studies Lecture Series.

The lectureship carries an honorarium of $1000 and is open exclusively to scholars who do not currently hold a tenured or tenure track position.

Three New Directions lecturers will be named for the 2022-2023 academic year. We invite applications from scholars whose research stakes out bold, innovative new directions in any area of Jewish Studies. Each New Directions Lecturer will offer an online public talk on their research during the 2022-2023 academic year.

Deadline to apply: September 16, 2022.

Eligibility:

The program is open to active scholars who are not employed in a tenured or tenure track (or equivalent permanent) position in 2022-2023. Lecturers must hold a PhD in any discipline related to Jewish Studies; applicants who have not yet graduated but are in the final stages of dissertation completion will also be considered. Past New Directions Lecturers are not eligible to apply. Past applicants who were not selected are welcome to apply again.

New Directions Lecturers will be selected by a committee comprised of Jewish Studies faculty and graduate students at UC Davis. As the name of the lectureship indicates, applications will be evaluated primarily on the proposal’s potential to clearly, rigorously, and boldly stake out new directions in Jewish Studies. Awardees will be notified by early October.
